A ukulele has only four strings, so tuning is quick once you know the notes.
Standard tuning
Most ukuleles are tuned G C E A (G4, C4, E4, A4). The unusual part is that the 4th string, the G, is the high one. That's called reentrant tuning. There's also a low-G tuning, but start with standard tuning if you're new.
How to tune
- Open the Online Tuner and choose Ukulele.
- Pluck one string at a time and check that the note on screen matches the target.
- Tune up to the note from below.
- When all four strings are done, check them once more.
Good to know
Ukulele strings are nylon-type and stretch a lot at first. If you just restrung, retune several times a day for the first few days.
To tune by ear, play the reference tone for each string in the tuner and match it.
